Historical trends
The number of Indian students in the U.S. increased by 12.8% in 2007/08, following an increase of 9.6% the previous year. India has been the number one sending place of origin since 2001/02 when it surpassed China. 2000/01 marked a new surge in enrollments from India, with an increase of 30%, followed by two more years of double-digit growth (22% in 2002/03 and 12% in 2003/04).
